Coming down the home stretch
This was a nice day for me. I went down to Goodwin
House and had a visit with my Aunt Pat and my cousin
Margaret. Pat is 84 years old and she doesn't always
remember things. Margaret goes down on Saturday to
make sure her mom eats lunch. They visit while
Margaret goes thru the mail and writes checks paying
the bills. Usually, Nani, Margaret's beautiful German
Shepherd, accompanies her on her visit because Pat
loves to play catch/fetch and Nani is obliging. It is very
peaceful and relaxing. Pat has changed from the energetic
and whirlwind aunt I knew as a child. Now she just smiles
lovingly and retreats to her world. Every so often, a
glimmer of the old Pat will drift in but it is fleeting. She
seems content and happy. Margaret, with her tender
care, keeps Pat safe..... bits of her old life surround her and
comfort her like a shawl thrown over the shoulders. I
am glad I came.
