Man O' War
The just don't make them like him any more. Oh there are great race horses but Man O' War was really incredible. The picture that shows the four poles proves it. The pole standing by itself on the left is the beginning of a horse's stride. The striped line on the path is distance of a normal horse's stride. Where the three poles stand together, the first pole(the one away from the front) represents Cigar's stride;
the middle one is Secretariet's; and the front one is Man O'War's (28')
He started 21 one times and came in first 20. The only race he lost was because they didn't have starting gates and the starter didn't make sure all the horses were facing forward. He lived to be 30 yrs old and many of his offspring became winners as well. The best known was War Admiral who won the Triple Crown. Because horses are so big, when they die only their head or heart or hooves are buried. In Man O' War's case, the whole horse is buried at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.
A great tribute to a great horse.
