A Calming Effect

There is a lot to be said for prayer. It certainly calms you down if you let it. I attended Church this morning and enjoyed the sermon. We are going thru the book of Daniel and talking about prophesy. It was truely interesting but it was this afternoon that really felt good.
We have been having a 21 days of fasting and feasting on God's word....sort of a renewal time. Although I haven't participated in this, I went tonight because, Kathy, the young lady who has been sitting with Lynn and I for the past few months was getting baptised tonight. I wanted to give her support. I was so lucky because I had such wonderful friends to share that special moment with me. She didn't have her family's support but she did have two wonderful friends who came all the way from Southern Maryland to witness for her. I wanted to be there for her too. Her testimony was beautiful and heartfelt. I am so grateful that she was able to do this and that I got to hear it.
After the baptism, we continued with the praying. We broke up into little groups and prayed for our Church, our Ministers, our Country, our leaders, and for our missionaries. Kathy and I were joined by a guy named Scott.
Scott had been expecting his wife but she didn't come. He explained that she suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis. Kathy was suffering from a migraine so she left early but Scott and I prayed together and I really felt blessed to be be there. At first , it felt strange praying with a total stranger but once we got into it, we weren't strangers anymore. I felt at peace with God and myself for the first time in a while.
"Abide with me, fast falls the eventide. The darkest deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee. Help of the helpless, Lord, abide with me."
Amen.
