A Nice Weekend

It is Memorial Weekend and it has been one of the nicest ones that I remember. Saturday was spent with softball and picking up Elinor in Maryland. It was a lovely drive over there and I enjoyed myself. Also, I didn't bring any cherries so I couldn't mess up on my eating. We had a delightful dinner on the Shore of the Chesapeake Bay at sunset and although it was very overcast, it was still pretty. Today, Elinor came to Church with me. Immanual Bible Church really outdid itself with a wonderful tribute to the Armed Forces The whole orchestra and choir were there and they sang each branch's song. I had invited my friend
and fellow CCC member, Deb Werling, to join me and she came. Deb is or at least she will be a
Lt. Col in the Air Force. She will be promoted on Tuesday which is very impressive. She is a very interesting lady. Then Brian Birdwell, who was burned at the Pentagon on 9/11/01, spoke.
He is definitely a hero to me. I read his wife, Mel's book "Refined By Fire". Both Birdwells are examples of great courage. I could not put the book down. I met Brian and Mel last Sunday and told them both how much I apprecaited their book. It made me really try and reconnect with God because I saw what an effect it had had on them. I then took Elinor to her Church and she enjoyed that as well. We went over to Margaret's at 530pm and had a carryout dinner with Margaret and her good friend, Claudia. I have known Claudia for a long time and like her very much. We also share the same birthday. My Cousin is always a joy to be around. We have an
easy relationship which I have loved all my life. Tomorrow should be a good day too.
