Abraham Lincoln
Kentucky is known for a lot of things but one of the best things is that it was the birthplace of our16th President, Abraham Lincoln.
We managed to see quite a bit about Mr. Lincoln. There are several parks and museums that have memoriabilia. There is even a National Park which shows his birthplace and boyhood home. He was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin County. The original cabin(they believe) is located in the Memorial
Building with the 56 steps(one for every yr of his life). It was called the Sinking Spring Farm.
The Sinking Spring is still there and still gives water. When Lincoln was 2, his family moved to Knob Creek(the wooden cabin). The National Park Service just acquired this property and they haven't really developed it but you can get an idea of what a little boy might have seen. Lincoln's earliest memories were of the Knob Creek farm. The last building we found in Harrodsburg which is sw of Lexington. The church houses the building where Thomas Lincoln(Abe's Father) and Nancy Hanks(his Mom) were married.
Lincoln was a humble man and he never lost that. He appreciated education and he never lost that either. "Every man is said to have his peculiar ambition. Whether it be true or not, I can say for one that I have no other so great as that of being truely esteemed of my fellow men by renderimg myself worthy of their esteem. " A.Lincoln 3/9/1832
