Locust Grove

I am not sure what it is about that name but I seem to keep running into it. This particular home is the home of William and Lucy Croghan.
Those two names probably don't mean anything to anyone reading this blog but Willam Croghan
was the surveying partner of George Rogers Clark. Again, that name might not mean anything to you but he is the man who went looking for the passage to the Northwest Territories(Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.) During the Revolution, he managed to get control of this area from the Brits and thus
helped open the West for settling. He founded Louisville and spent the last nine years of his life here at this place. His sister was Lucy Croghan. You may have heard of his younger brother too:William Clark of Lewis and Clark. Both William and his partner, Merriwether Lewis visited
Locust Grove.
When I said the name Locust Grove was familiar, it is because it is also the name of my cousin,
Margaret's, family home down on the Rappahannock River in the Tidewater area of Virginia.
I have only been there on a few occasions but I remember having had a good time. Of course
I probably wouldn't recognize it now since the family has fixed it up.
The name Locust Grove I am sure refers to a grove of Locust trees but when I think of locust,
I always think of the insect that visits once every 17 years. Thinking of trees is definitely nicer than thinking about the bugs.
