The Last Wednesday Game
Today was our last Wednesday game for this year and my last one period. As usual, the issue in the fall is attendence. You just never know if you will have enough to field a team.
When I arrived at Meadow Lane, I went out to the field to put the mat down but I couldn't find home plate. The ground crew had dragged the field earlier and home plate just wasn't in sight. Gloria Mathers, Laura Carver and I began to kick at the dusty dirt for about 15 minutes before we finally uncovered it.
Slowly but surely, my team arrived and by 6pm(gametime), we had 10. Margaret Keyes arrived during the first inning and that gave us 11(with me catching).
Pink scored first inning and we followed with a run in the 2nd inning. The Pink team was playing with a weak pitcher.
Janet Weeks used to be a fairly good pitcher but she hasn't been consistent of late and tonight was no exception. We had a great third inning with 5 runs and Pink came back with 3 runs. They then scored four more which put them ahead by two. We came back with three in last inning to win by one. It was a good game by both teams. And guess who made two outs defensively.........ME. KC Collett threw a great throw to catch the runner coming home and I actually caught a pop -up(barely). My team was proud of me and that made me feel good. I also hit two good hits so if I could have run I would have been on base. Co Duryea ran for me so I did get on base. It was a nice way to finish Wednesdays for me. The more I play with this team, the more I am grateful to God for letting me manage this year. I like each and every player no matter how well they play. They are all a joy.
