My Last Golden Girls' Picnic
Oh the memories I have of this place. This wonderful old house belongs to Pat "Too Tall" Blackmon, the star pitcher and one of the founding members of the Golden Girls. The Golden Girls started in 1989 because 18 ladies wanted to play in a slow pitch senior softball tournament in Detroit, Michigan. They had so much fun that they decided to stay together and play in other tournaments. Now we have 160 members and we are still going strong.
Pat's house is out in Purcellville, VA out near the West Virginia
border. Getting there is a trip but it is worth it. The house itself was built back in the 1800's and Pat and her partner have fixed it up into a really lovely place. She has about 70 acres of land and two ponds. She is definitely out in the boonies but she loves it. She told us to bring our own chairs, drinks and if we wanted to contribute, bring a dessert.
The Golden Girls are famous for their cooking so the desserts were varied and looked delicious. I say looked because I didn't try any of them(YEA ME!!!!!!)
After the meal, we played two new games. One was played with bean bags that you had to toss onto a board with a hole in it. If you got it thru the hole you got 3 points. Needless to say , it was not easy to get into the hole. However, we did have some success. George Hersey topped everyone by getting a two-for-one. He threw one on the board near the hole and his next throw put both of them in. The other game was a takeoff on the South American gaucho's bola. You threw a rope with a golf ball at each end at three rails and tried to get it to rap around the rail. Crazy but fun. Everyone had a good time........especially me. I will definitely miss these ladies.

What a beautiful old home and the land looks so kept and nice! You have had so much fun with the Golden Girls, maybe you can start one in Washington! I would hate to see you give up softball.
