A New Friend
I made a new friend today. Her name is Kyong Suk Kim and she is a member at Curves. She is originally from South Korea but she is here with her husband who is a Minister of a Korean Church. Kyong joined Curves a few months ago and in fact, I signed her up. I showed her the machines and she decided to join. After exercising a few days, she came in one morning and was doing the exercising in a soft manner. I told her she would have to work a little harder if she wanted to get some results. She told me her arms were sore. I asked her what had happened and she explained she was sore because she had worked in the garden the day before. I told her that I would not mess with her then. What I meant by that was that she knew how she felt better than I did so I would let her govern her exercise. She thought I was being rude but she didn't say anything then.
She came in later on and said she wanted to quit because I was a racist. I was flabbergasted to say the least. Eventually, her husband came in and talked with Susan(the owner) and they came to the conclusion that it was a cultural misunderstanding. When Kyong came in the next time, I apologized to her and I explained what I had meant. We shook hands and from then on, I would always try and greet her in a gentle way and encourage her in her exercising. When she found out I was leaving, she asked if she could take me out to lunch. She also asked if I liked Korean food. I told her that I had never had any but I would love to try it. She had to check with her husband so I waited for her to tell me when.
Yesterday, she came in and seemed a little upset. I asked her what was wrong and she told me that the congregation of her husband's church was not very happy with her husband because they didn't like changes. (Boy, does that sound familiar) . As I listened to her, I could tell she really needed someone to listen to her. We talked for a while and I hope I made her feel a little better. We set today for lunch and parted company.
This morning I was reading and I came across something that I thought might have a special meaning for Kyong. It was Revelations 3:8(Look it up!). I wrote it on the back of one of my pictures and gave it to her. I think she liked it. We had a lovely lunch and we have decided to try and keep in touch. Of course, she is going to have to learn how to e-mail(something her kids have been trying to teach her). She is also going to come to our Bible Study on Tuesday. I am delighted to make this lady's aqauintence but I think the Lord sure sent a wierd messenger.
