The Golden Girls

How do you thank a whole group of ladies for saving your life. Thank you just doesn't seem to say it. This incredible organization came into my life when I needed it most. Most of the friends I have made in Virginia are thru this organization. I have learned so much from them. Not just about softball, but about myself. I have tried things I never would have attempted before like managing a team and being President for two years. I believe I found my best attribute...that of encourager. I am good at that. The things I like best about myself are things I have picked up while being with these ladies. Before the Golden Girls, I was invisable. I had been sitting on the sidelines for so long, I had a large white stripe down my front. The Golden Girls gave me something to look forward to on Tuesdays/Wednesdays and Saturdays. I learned that winning is nice but it really is how you play the game that counts. I learned how to shuffle players in and out without ruffling too many feathers( and that is not easy to do). I learned how to take charge and I truely believe that I have come up with some of the most original names: the Lime Sublimes, The Silver Spitfires, The Raspberry Tarts and the Jolly Green Dragons(who also had the coolest shirt ever). Most of the ladies say I am a good manager and they like being on my team.
This year has been the best ever. We have slipped a little this fall but we were kicking butt in the spring. Tomorrow will be my last games with the Golden Girls and probably my last softball ever. I can' t run anymore and even playing catcher is difficult but I thank God for these 15 years of joy. I hope I will be in touch with these ladies but I know that it is often out sight out of mind. I know that it will depend on me mostly. The only way I will loose touch is if I let go so i intend on getting out the chalk and having very dry hands.
I wish this group of wonderful, talented, loving, generous group of athletes all the very best in the world. Play Ball, y'all!!!!! for as long as you can. And if you have ever wondered whether you ever made a difference in someone's life, YOU DID!!!
