My Hero

I guess it seems kinda of strange to have a horse
for a hero but Secretariet is my hero. He was a
magnificent horse, red in color. In fact, that's what they called him....Big Red. He was three years old when I was in my 25th year. For 25 yrs, there had been no Triple Crown Winner.
Citation was the last and he became Champ the year I was born.
I remember the Kentucky Derby when Big Red
ran. He set the record that still stands to this day. He was big and powerful and beautiful. It didn't hurt that the colors his jockey wore were
Blue and white(my favorite colors). Red won the Preakness but it was the Belmont that sealed
his name in the history books. He crossed the finish line 31 lengths ahead of the 2nd horse.
There was no one near him. I remember watching in awe. He was magnificent. I always wished
I could have seen him. Although none of his colts and fillies ever had his brillance, he was still
a great horse. When he died, they did an autopsy and found his heart was almost two times as
large as a normal horse. He was a joy to watch. When he ran, he gave it his all. The length of his stride is second only to the great Man O' War. Oddly enough, Man O'War's nickname was Red also. Fitting.
