There Be Beasties Roaming Around Kentucky

Big Bone Lick State Park is definitely not your run of the mill State Park. From 12,000 to 20,000 years ago, these big guys were roaming all over the Ohio Valley trying to get away from the ice. They liked the minerals and salt that they found here and so they remained here too---literally.
The park features not only these big statues of the mastadon(top) and the wooly mammoth (bottom)
but it also has a herd of buffalo.
We did not see the buffalo and in fact, we seemed to just miss them all over the state. Oh well,
I didn't go to KY to see buffalo but it would have been nice.
The neat thing about this park is that they are still uncovering findings of bones etc from that long ago time. It seems strange to think that these beasts are no longer found anywhere. They
are gone forever. Just because something is big and powerful doesn't mean it is invinceable.
