There is a fungus among us

There is a word that I am having difficulty with. Actually, it is a term:SELF ESTEEM. It means to feel good about your self. It is not something that should be given but earned. If it is given, then how can it make you feel good? If it can be given, it can be taken away. If it is earned, you own it. The only way it can be taken away, is if you let someone take it.
I am all for people feeling good about themselves. It is hard to deal with all that life hands one to not like ones self. But I believe it must be earned. If you work hard at something, and don't give up, you will succeed. It may not happen today or tomorrow or a month from today but if you persevere, you will succeed. It might not be a success that way you imagined but the respect you earn for yourself and from others will make all the difference. And NO ONE CAN EVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU. IT IS YOURS!
There was an instance during our first game today. Our opponents wanted our pitcher to move in closer so that their karet patcher could make contact with the ball. I said absolutley not. I will not put my pitcher in danger just so this person can make contact with the ball and feel good. If their team is so concerned with her feelings then they should help her before or after the game. Moving the pitcher in does not teach the person the correct way to hit the ball and if by some chance, she does make contact and hit the pitcher, will that really help her self esteem? I think not. I m perfectly willing to give this lady extra help or encourangement but not at the expense of someone else. Not now , not ever.
